Changing Our Community Forever

Our New Community Center

Why a New Facility?

Accessibility for All

The State Of Play study for the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes area found that only 51% of the total population in Yates County has adequate access to physical activity locations, the lowest in our 6 county area.

In Yates County, a survey by Sports Facilities Advisory (SFA) was unable to identify any indoor facilities regularly used for organized sports or programs with open community registration. More public indoor space would expand opportunities for all youth to participate in activities and health programs year round.

The limited programming offered in our community, either due to geographical or financial limitations, makes it critical to maximize resources and work from a central location that can offer a wide variety of health and wellness programming. We cannot hope to support our youth and break the cycle of poverty and poor health outcomes by only offering programming a few months of the year during light hours.

The Yates Community Center is centrally located in Penn Yan which is easily accessible for residents from across the region.

New Facility Plans

Our new facility will be located next to our current fitness center on North Main Street in Penn Yan. This new facility is the second part of our Phase 2 development; The outdoor part of Phase 2 was completed in 2023 and includes a playground, outdoor basketball/pickleball court, and pavilion.

The building will be 35,000sq and feature a multi-purpose flooring with designated areas for various recreational opportunities, a community room, and a walking track which will allow the community center to offer year-round community programming and events.

Be sure to stay tuned for build updates!
